Overview

Leh-Ladakh Tour starting from Srinagar and going all the way up to the most desired mountain roads of Ladakh is something to have in your travel wishlist.

Now, Jammu Kashmir is the northernmost state of India having a number of aesthetic sights and eye-pleasing locations within the country. And a Leh Ladakh trip from Srinagar provides you with a glimpse of a number of these places as we’ll be starting out from this state.

The Culture of Leh Ladakh region is diverse in nature and they have a history that dates back a long time and is unheard of. Also, you’ll find several Buddhist monasteries in Leh-Ladakh for the region is heavily influenced by Buddhism.

Going back in time, it is important to know that Leh served as a major trading point ever since the Indus Valley Civilization. When you travel from Srinagar through the Zoji La pass, which was the route used for the said cause, give it a thought and ask your tour guide for interesting facts as they have a handful of those.

Upon all that, don’t forget to visit the 17th Century Leh Palace in Leh-Ladakh where you can have a great view of the whole land from the top.

And alongside the Palace comes the Hemis Monastery, Thiksey Monastery and many other famous monasteries in Leh-Ladakh, which cannot be missed as well.

All these mentioned places and monasteries make the cut for ‘most famous places to visit in Leh-Ladakh’. There are several others as well, but that’s something you should discover yourself while on the tour to Leh-Ladakh.

Alos, Leh Ladakh trip is never complete without getting yourself acquainted with adventure sports offered by the broken moon land, which is another name for Leh-Ladakh.

Trekking is the most popular option when it comes to adventure sports in Leh-Ladakh but you can take part in river rafting or mountain biking as well. But a ride on the two-humped camel could be your pick as well if you want to do something exciting but not that much thrilling.

You get to traverse on the highest motorable road, the Khardung La Pass to reach the Nubra valley in Leh-Ladakh.

Also, at night you will camp in the valley under the stars, which serves as one of the best memories from the trip.

Now, if you’ve seen individuals taking a photo beside the Pangong Tso in Leh-Ladakh and sharing them on social media? Then you’ll get your chance to do the same as well, while we pass through the  Pangong Tso during the course of our trip.

Dropping in some interesting facts about Leh-Ladakh, you should know that it is a desert and is a heaven for bird watchers because more than 225 different species of birds could be seen here.

To get the most out of your tour, visit Leh Ladakh from April to September which is considered to be the best time to visit Leh-Ladakh. During this time the weather in Leh-Ladakh is at its best, giving rise to the vegetation even in a desert.

Take your time to experience the local culture and people of Leh Ladakh. They have a unique culture because of the Tibetan influence in Leh-Ladakh. And overall they make up for a very nice set of people which can be seen throughout the nation.

Leh Ladakh is invariably famous for its food which is again influenced by Tibetan culture. You can also dig in and taste the famous Ladakhi pulao which is quintessential for the place.

The locals claim that on a chilly day in Ladakh, nothing is better than a hot cup of Gur Gur Cha or Butter Tea, which is quite popular and should be tasted for once when you’re in Leh-Ladakh.

With that, we completed your all-round iternary for the Leh-Ladakh food including exploration of local cuisine, people, places, and whatnot.

FAQs

What kind of clothes we should bring during the Ladakh trip?
T-shirts and shorts are good clothing options during the daytime but after the sunsets the climate gets chilly and one requires a jacket and pullover. If you are trekking to the peaks of 4000 meters above sea level, you need warm woolen clothes. Rain and snowfall can take place in June and July and if you are travelling in this season then you should carry windcheaters and raincoats. If you are into trekking, a pair of waterproof shoes is a must.
Can I take my old age parents on a trip to Leh Ladakh?
As we have discussed in the previous questions, acute mountain sickness does not matter concerning age, gender, or physical fitness. It can happen to anyone and of any age. So, yes, as much as you can go yourself to Ladakh, you can surely take your parents provided they are in healthy condition and can endure the fatigue of this long journey. You should plan a relaxing and comfortable itinerary for your Ladakh trip when taking your elder parents. Travel from Srinagar – Leh Highway with night halts at Kargil and Alchi. Finally, after doing sightseeing in Ladakh, come back from Manali – Leh Highway. Plan to hire a comfortable vehicle as a lot of distance needs to be covered; they must be comfortable on the journey. Make sure to keep everyone in the group always adequately hydrated.
How can we reach Ladakh?
There are three ways to reach Ladakh: The best way to travel to Ladakh is by flight. Leh Airport is well-connected with major cities like Delhi, Jammu, Chandigarh, Srinagar, and many other places through direct and connecting flights. If you are traveling by road then there are two different routes lead to Ladakh - one from Srinagar and another from Manali. If you are traveling from Manali then you will cover the distance of 474 kilometers to Leh via Keylong with a night stopover. On the other hand, Srinagar to Leh will take you through Sonamarg, Drass, Kargil, Mulbekh, and Lamayuru. You will cover 434 km on this journey. All the roads remain open from May to October.
What is the ideal duration for the Ladakh trip?
The ideal time depends on your plan and itinerary. Generally, it needs 5 to 10 days to cover the major destinations in Ladakh. If trekking is your main goal then you may have to increase the duration as some long trekking trails require a more prolonged time to complete the tour.
