Overview

Shimla is the largest city and the capital of Himachal Pradesh. It served as an erstwhile summer capital during British Rule over India. Shimla has an old world charm of neo-gothic era architecture, snow capped valleys and mountains, lush green forests and much more. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India and this place is ideal for a family trip, couples or people seeking some adventure activities.

Shimla has a lot of delightful local places to explore which makes up for the aura of that place. A visit to Christ Church, which was built back in 1857 will give you a chance to admire the intricate neo-gothic architecture of the place. Interestingly, the church’s tower clock and fresco were designed by the father of famous English novelist, Rudyard Kipling.

Mall Road is the city’s most happening spot. It’s lined up with cafes, restaurants and social hangout areas and shopping hubs which makes it a great place to go especially during night time when you can try the famous local delicacies of Shimla.

Explore Himalayan Bird Park and take a look at various bird species such as peacocks, pheasants and Himalayan Monal to name a few. Visit The Ridge, which is the epicenter of all tourist locations in Shimla. It is connected with Mall Road, Scandal Point and also the Lakkar Bazar. Jakhu Temple is one of the most unique temples of India where you will be able to see a massive 33mts tall statue of Lord Hanuman and it also offers a scenic view of Shimla from a vantage point.

Kufri is a small hill station which is located around 20kms from Shimla. In Kufri you can take a horse ride to Mahasu Peak or hike there. You’ll be able to see Kedarnath and Badrinath mountains and also acres of Deodar trees. You can also indulge in some adventurous activities such as skiing at Kufri.

Fagu is a small village which lies on the Hindustan-Tibet Highway which offers mesmerising views and stunning snow clad mountain peaks. The fog and cloud are really close to the surface hence the name “Fagu”. You can also take a visit to the nearby apple and potato farms and learn more about the local villager’s lifestyle.

The ideal time to visit Shimla would be in summers if you want to beat the heat of the summer months, while you can also visit these places in winters to experience snowfall and beautiful snow covered valleys all around. However, Shimla can be accessed all year round without any problems.
