Overview

West Bengal lies in the eastern part of India, a unique state which has the mighty Himalayan ranges up in the north and coastal areas down in its south side. The state has some of the most unique and alluring places to be discovered. This 4 nights and 5 days trip aims to do just that with the main highlights of the tour being Darjeeling and Kalimpong.

The trip starts off from Kalimpong, which is a small city located in the state of West Bengal. It was once an ancient trade hub between India and Tibet. This little town has many touristic gems such as Zang Dhok Palri Monastery, which is popularly known as Durpin Monastery. It is one of the largest monasteries in Kalimpong and also one of the well known monasteries in the state of West Bengal. The monastery has sculptured walls, ancient paintings and beautiful pillar structures. From this monastery you can grab a view of Mt. Khangchendzonga and also the Teesta river flowing beneath. You can even try out paragliding here and enjoy panoramic views of this city from a vantage point.

On towards Darjeeling, which is famous for its tea gardens, tea factories and toy trains. Some of the famous and memorable places to visit in Darjeeling are the M.G. Road or Mall Road where there are many places to eat and shop. You can enjoy local delicacies of the Darjeeling such as Momos, Thukpa and Dalle.

Tiger View point is just breathtaking and this place offers the best sunrise view that you can get in India. Ghoom Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Darjeeling. It has a 15ft high statue of Maitreya Buddha and also houses several Buddhist manuscripts and texts.

One of the most historic places in Darjeeling is HMI (Hindustan Mountaineering Institute) which is a full-fledged mountaineering institution founded by Tenzing Norgay, one of the first persons to summit Mt. Everest. The campus also has a museum where you can see personal artifacts of Tenzing. You can indulge in some adventurous activities while you are here such as rock-climbing which is sure to pump up your adrenaline.
